Using the App with the Camera
This guide covers how to use the Facemask Camera app to control the camera, manage recordings, and transfer files to your device.
📱 Getting the App
Before you can use the camera with your phone or tablet, you'll need to install the Facemask Camera app.
Android Users (Google Play)
The Facemask Camera app is available for Internal Testing on Google Play. Use the link below to install it on your Android device:

Note: This is an internal testing version. You may be prompted to join the testing program or accept permissions to install the app.
iPhone/iPad Users (Apple App Store)
We're currently in the process of adding the Facemask Camera app to the Apple App Store. We'll notify you as soon as it's available for download.

1. Getting Connected
Before opening the app, connect your phone or tablet to the camera's WiFi network.
- Power on the Facemask camera.
- On your device, open WiFi settings and join the
FACEMASKnetwork (default password:gamefilm). - Open the Facemask Camera app.
The app will automatically search for the camera. A banner at the top of the screen will show:
- "Searching for Camera …" — connecting in progress
- "Camera Ready!" — successfully connected
- "Camera Not Found!" — camera is unreachable; check that you are connected to the correct WiFi network
Note: While connected to the camera's WiFi, your device will not have internet access.
2. Home Tab — Recording Controls & Settings
The Home tab is the main control panel for the camera.
Settings

| Enable Audio | Toggle audio recording on or off |
| Record on Boot | When enabled, the camera starts recording automatically each time it is powered on |
| Segment Duration | Slider (1–15 minutes) — controls how long each recording segment file is before a new file is started |
All controls are disabled if no SD card is detected. Insert an SD card and the settings will become available.
Starting and Stopping Recording
- Tap Start to begin recording. The file list will refresh automatically every 15 seconds while recording is active.
- Tap Stop to end the current recording session.
3. Files Tab — Managing Recordings
The Files tab lists all MP4 recordings on the camera's SD card, sorted newest first.
Transferring a File to Your Device
Tap the Transfer & Save icon (folder with arrow) next to a file. The app will copy the file from the camera to your device and show transfer progress in the status banner (e.g., "Transferring facemask_42.mp4 73%"). A notification will confirm where the file was saved when complete.
Files are saved to the following location depending on your device:

Deleting a File
Tap the Delete icon (trash) next to a file. A confirmation dialog will appear before the file is permanently removed from the SD card.
Transfer All / Delete All
Use the Move All or Delete All buttons at the top of the file list to act on all files at once. Both require confirmation before proceeding.
Note: You must stop recording before transferring or deleting files. While recording is active, the current file is protected and cannot be transferred or deleted.
4. Wi-Fi Tab — Changing Camera Network Settings
Use the Wi-Fi tab to change the camera's hotspot name (SSID) and password.
- Enter a new SSID (network name) and Password.
- Tap Update WiFi.
- A message will confirm the update and note that a reboot is required.
- Power cycle the camera. It will now broadcast the new network name.
- Reconnect your device to the new network before using the app again.
6. Update Tab — Firmware Updates
Use the Update tab to check for and install camera firmware updates.
Checking Versions
- While connected to the camera's WiFi, tap Check Board Version to read the firmware version currently installed on the camera.
- Switch your device to an internet connection, then tap Check Web Version to check the latest available firmware version.
If an update is available, the Download ota.bin from Web button will turn orange.
Installing an Update
- Tap Download ota.bin from Web — your browser will download the firmware file.
- Copy
ota.binto the root of the camera's SD card. - Power cycle the camera. It will detect the file, install the update automatically, and reboot.
7. Help Tab
The Help tab includes troubleshooting tips and a Review Mode toggle.
Review Mode lets you explore all app features without connecting to a camera. It simulates a connected camera with demo recordings.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Solution |
|---|---|
| SD Card Not Ready | Remove and reseat the SD card, or reformat it. Then reboot the camera. |
| File list is empty | Confirm recording has been started and the camera is reachable. Tap the refresh icon. |
| MP4 won't play after download | Stop recording first, refresh the file list, then re-download the finalized file. |
