Installing the Camera to Your Helmet
Your Facemask Camera is designed to mount securely to your helmet's facemask and stay locked in place through full-contact play. Follow these steps to install it correctly.
π§ What You'll Need
Before you start, make sure you have:
- β Your Facemask Camera
- β Bar clamps (2 pieces per side β 4 pieces total)
- β Phillips head screws (4 total)
- β Phillips head screwdriver (you'll need to provide your own)
- β Your helmet with facemask attached
Note: All mounting hardware (clamps and screws) is included in your package. You'll need to provide your own Phillips head screwdriverβany standard screwdriver will work.
π Understanding the Mounting System
Your camera has 4 screw hole posts β 2 on each side of the camera body. These posts align with the bar clamps that wrap around your facemask's vertical bars.
The bar clamps work like a sandwich:
- The camera sits behind the facemask
- The bar clamps wrap around the front vertical posts of the facemask
- The screws go through the clamps and into the camera's screw posts, locking everything together
This creates a rock-solid mount that won't shift during play.
π οΈ Step-by-Step Installation
Step 1: Position the Camera Behind the Facemask
Place the camera behind the facemask of your helmet. The camera should sit between the helmet shell and the facemask bars, with the lens facing forward through the facemask openings.
Positioning Tips:
- The camera lens should have a clear view forward (not blocked by horizontal bars)
- Center the camera so it captures what the player sees straight ahead
- The camera body should rest comfortably against the inside of the facemask
Important: The camera goes behind the facemask (between the mask and the helmet), not in front of it.
Step 2: Select Your Mounting Points
Identify the two front vertical posts of your facemask where you'll attach the camera. These are typically the bars that run vertically down the front of the facemask.
Choosing the Right Bars:
- Use the vertical bars closest to the center of the facemask
- Make sure the bars are thick enough for the clamps to grip securely
- The bars should align with the camera's screw posts on each side
Step 3: Attach the Bar Clamps
Take one bar clamp and position it around one of the front vertical facemask posts. The clamp should wrap around the bar from the front.
How to Position the Clamp:
- Hold the camera in place behind the facemask
- Wrap the bar clamp around the front of the vertical post
- Align the clamp's screw holes with the camera's screw post holes
- The clamp should sandwich the facemask bar between itself and the camera
Repeat this process for the second clamp on the opposite side.
Step 4: Insert and Tighten the Screws
Using a Phillips head screwdriver, insert a screw through the bar clamp and thread it into the camera's screw post.
Tightening Process:
- Start by hand-threading the screw to make sure it's aligned correctly
- Use your screwdriver to tighten the screw firmly
- The screw should be tight, but don't over-tighten to the point of stripping the threads
- Repeat for all 4 screws (2 per side)
Pro Tip: Tighten the screws in a cross pattern (alternate sides) to ensure even pressure and a balanced mount.
Step 5: Test the Security
Once all four screws are tightened, it's time to make sure the camera is secure.
Security Check:
- Tug on the camera firmly β it should not move, shift, or wiggle
- Try to rotate or twist the camera β it should be locked in place
- Shake the helmet gently β the camera should stay rock-solid
- Check that all screws are flush and fully tightened
If the camera moves or feels loose:
- Tighten the screws further
- Make sure the bar clamps are positioned correctly around the facemask bars
- Verify that the clamps are aligned with the camera's screw posts
Step 6: Final Visual Inspection
Put on your helmet and check the camera's position:
What to Check:
- β The camera lens has a clear forward view
- β The camera is centered and level
- β Nothing is blocking the lens (no bars, straps, or obstructions)
- β The camera sits snug against the facemask
- β All screws are tight and secure
If you need to adjust the position, loosen the screws slightly, reposition the camera, and re-tighten.
β οΈ Important Reminders
Before Every Game or Practice:
- Check the screws β vibration and contact can loosen them over time
- Tug on the camera to verify it's still secure
- Inspect the clamps for any cracks or damage
Maintenance Tips:
- Re-tighten screws periodically (weekly during the season)
- If a screw feels stripped or loose, contact us immediately for a replacement
- Clean around the mounting area to prevent dirt buildup
Safety First:
- Never play with a loose or improperly mounted camera
- If the camera shifts during play, stop and re-tighten immediately
